Clean fresh water is essential for life, and it is the shared responsibility of every individual to protect common water sources, wetlands, and riparian zones. Our mission focuses on protecting water quality by promoting efficient irrigation, managing runoff, and implementing water management strategies to ensure the sustainable use of water resources.
The following funding opportunities are available for water conservation and quality projects:

One of the primary programs for financial assistance is through the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board’s (OWEB) Small Grant Program.  The SWCD manages the grant program for the local Hood River area.  The SWCD is continually soliciting applications for OWEB small grants. This funding opportunity provides landowners up to $20,000 in grant funds for projects that result in benefits to water quality, quantity, and habitats. Some example projects that would be eligible for funding include irrigation upgrades, livestock improvements (hardened footings, manure storage, fencing), and riparian plantings. Please call us at 541-386-4588 to discuss any project ideas you might have.

The Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) offers financial assistance programs designed to support agricultural and forest landowners seeking to enhance their land. Eligible projects include irrigation water management and system upgrades, air quality improvement, and forest management.
