This super, easy to grow cool season perennial bunch grass is drought tolerant. Silvery, light green flowers appear in late spring to early summer. After flowering, Junegrass will likely go dormant and continue to provide habitat to a variety of organisms. Junegrass works well in meadowscapes, rock gardens, and sidewalk strips. In optimal conditions, it will self seed.

This evergreen shrub is also found in the shady understory of a forest, primarily west of the cascades and on the coast. Salal can reach heights of 6 feet but is more commonly three feet. It has edible berries July-September and can spread through rhizomes.
