Forestry and Wildfire

Wildfire seasons have become longer and more hazardous in recent years. Climate change, along with declining forest health, is intensifying threats to local communities. The expansion of the wildland urban interface (WUI) has resulted in many more homes in Oregon being exposed to wildfire risks. In response to these growing dangers, forest restoration and community preparedness efforts are vital strategies for reducing the chance of catastrophic wildfire events.

Wildfire preparedness activities in Hood River County are focused on creating defensible space around homes and other structures and implementing fuels reduction activities with forest landowners.
